I don’t know about you, but I feel like when this whole thing is over I’m going to be a little bit like Jim Carrey in Yes Man when it comes to Hardy asking for something!
Not because he’s been particularly good and deserves a reward, but because everything at the moment is ‘no’. No we cannot go to the park, no we cannot go to the movies, to sushi, to your friend’s house, to basically anywhere other than here and our street. And then there are the series of ‘nos’ that come after a long day helping your kids with their “remote learning” / “home schooling” AND being a stay-at-home-worker, or a stay-at-home-parent just trying to get shit done.
“No we cannot go for a bike ride darling because mummy is very very tired and just wants to cry in the shower – just for a little bit – and then have a glass of wine. Ok sweetie?”
That was me just yesterday (not verbatim). The novelty has well and truly worn off. The days are still so long, there are still so many frustrations balancing work and schooling and not being able to go anywhere. Plus the pressure to keep exercising so I come out of this looking better and therefore slightly more competitive on the meat market. It’s. just. so. hard.
Sure, there’s light at the end of the tunnel – case numbers are low and we are on “the road back”, but there’s still no certainty about how much longer we have to live like this. I’m not complaining about having to do it – I know we have to in order to stop the spread. But instead of adjusting and it becoming easier, it’s actually becoming harder.
So I will take a leaf out of Jim’s book and say YES to everything!
Maybe not to a perm again though.
What are you most looking forward to doing?
